May 22, 2014: LITTLE ROCK, AR – A public employees insurance committee voted Thursday to mandate state workers to undergo an annual checkup in order to avoid a $75 monthly increase in health insurance. The State and Public School Life and Health Insurance Board Benefits Sub-Committee said the move will ensure state employees take a more proactive role in their healthcare. Bob Alexander, director of the employee benefits division, says only 24% of employees participate in an annual wellness exam. “Employees will pay the base rate for health insurance, but when they receive a wellness checkup, they’ll receive a $75 discount,” Alexander says.
